Is there a bill in your state that American Atheists should be aware of? We rely on the eyes and ears of members and supporters across the nation to help us monitor the hundreds of bills filed every year that attack religious equality and give special treatment to religion.
What sorts of bills does American Atheists track?
We track legislation that affects these six priority areas:
- Public Education — Bills about school curriculum, textbooks, library collections, teacher standards, and student rights to accurate science and history instruction.
- LGBTQ+ Equality — Legislation on marriage, adoption, workplace protection, healthcare access, drag restrictions, and laws that use religious exemptions to discriminate.
- Health Care — Bills creating religious exemptions for healthcare providers or institutions, abortion bans, birth control access, and science-based public health policy.
- Reproductive Freedom — Legislation on abortion access, birth control, fertility care, and deceptive faith-based pregnancy centers.
- Special Privileges for Religion — Bills on taxpayer funding of religious institutions, religious exemptions that harm others, and policies that favor belief over nonbelief.
- Opposing Christian Nationalism — Legislation attempting to impose religious worldviews through government power, forced religious expression, or blurring church-state separation.
